What’s All the hate for this movie? I was really impressed with it. There were a lot of layers to it. Yes, on the most shallow level, it was a CGI destruction fest with gratuitous shots of Harley in booty shorts. However, there were some really deep concepts of internalization of external expectations and the idea of living down to your reputation vs living up to your potential. It also dealt with a myriad of growth concepts. I give it a solid A-

I thought it was perfectly entertaining, but it had serious pacing issues.

Did you by chance watch the extended cut?

The first time I saw Batman v Superman , it was the “Ultimate Edition”, and I found myself really out of touch with all the hate for the movie. Still haven’t seen the theatrical version.

I thought it rose and fell at a decent pace. The only not that I felt was off was Harley breaking the storefront window. That felt like a scene that they shot for commercials, then thought “oh shit, where do we put this?”.

I think Suicide Squad and No Mans Sky befell the same fate. The fan base let their expectations get to unreasonable levels and the final product never stood a chance of living up to those expectations. People just expected more from suicide squad than it was able to deliver. This was the only movie where I saw people dressed up in costumes at the Target I work at 3 hours before the first showing. The hype train was real and the bridge couldn’t hold its weight.

See, I’m not sure if the expectations were too high, or if they were just different. Every negative review I’ve read has boils down to “it wasn’t Guardians of the Galaxy”. I went in knowing it was going to be a mashup of different genres and concepts because the Suicide Squad has ALWAYS been about how badly the team gets along. I think People that are only watching the movies, not familiar with the source material, aren’t appreciating the pieced-together style of the movie is a reflection of the team itself.

It was the Extended Cut. So that may have had a big effect on things.

Everyone was expecting this to be Guardians of the Galaxy meets Deadpool and it stood no chance of ever reaching those levels.

Which I don’t get, because it never promised to be either of those things. It was meant to be a dark foil to the JLA. I think the one major misstep was making them buddies so fast. I get it that buddy cop movies are a foundational cornerstone of summer blockbusters, but this movie positioned the characters to forge a deeper connection than just “these are my peeps, I’ll be self-sacrificing for them!”

It was entertaining, but my biggest beef with it was the whole doomsday plot. Maybe I’m just sick of the whole “world is going to end” crap in superhero movies and just want the leads to be developed and see them fight good, developed villains.

Suicide Squad in particular - such an interesting, unique concept with little familiarity to the populous, I felt like they should have started a little more modestly and saved the silly end of the world gig for the sequel.

I think it just come from being a group of characters (like GotG or The Avengers) in a movie which appeared to be somewhat mature in language etc. (like deadpool). It’s not so much where the marketing placed it but where the hype train took it.

I saw it in the theater and gave it a solid B. My coworker was very disappointed with it because she expected the Joker to play a much more prominent role based on the advertising. As was already mentioned, perhaps the extended edition rectified the problem.

Seriously - every damn villain lately has a power/device/means of opening a portal of some sort over the center of a large city where shit flies up in the air and is about to suck everything up. Figure some other damn way for a villain to do something bad.

It was a bad movie. But it was an entertaining movie. I’d say it’s like the modern equivalent of Commando or Predator. Not smart or quality in any sense, but super RAD.

While I enjoyed it, I’m growing tired of basically every comic book movie villain being a god bent on bringing the apocolypze. Can’t we just have some normal villains? Give these villains an army and a sense of humor.

I get some of the hate. it was obviously tweaked to change the feel without worrying about the tone of the rest of it. that being said, I liked it.

I thought the Joker was a great reading of the character and fit with the realism that they tried to portray. and yes, realism in a superhero movie.

But the villain couldn’t be normal, otherwise it would have been familiar to the Squad. They needed a villain on the higher level than themselves in order to drive them to save the world.

People didn’t like it because it was split into segments that watched like they were all trailers. Which is not surprising since the people who were given the final cut for the movie make trailers for a living.

Terrible movie. My significant other was very excited to see it. I went into it with no preconceptions, I didn’t even know it was a comic book movie (this is how I like to see movies, I want to know nothing before hand). The biggest issue the movie had was the writing. The characters had terrible lines and were really flat. Harley, who should have carried the movie, came off dumb and ditzy instead of truly crazy.

I’ll focus on one aspect I found was seriously lacking and handled strangely: death. The movie handled death so oddly. Do you remember that the squad initially landed with extra soldiers in tow? They did. And those guys all seemed to die off camera with absolutely no explanation or mention. Then, to top it off, the hispanic guy actually freaking suicides to save the day and literally no one gave a shit. No one mentioned it AT ALL. That’s really freaking weird.

Other things I didn’t like:

The music was jarring and poorly timed.

The enemies were boring.

Helicopters don’t crash like that.

That I can’t remember everything I didn’t like because I saw it so long ago and forgot about it. I know something about the collars was dumb too but I can’t remember it for the life of me.

Movie was a huge mess in theaters and had several glaring errors and plot holes. My favorite is the big bad at the end “magnetically/psychically” disarming everyone and harley quinn has to pretend to be bad to get a gun to toss to will smith......who in the dramatic close up shot STILL HAS GUN STRAPPED TO HIS ARM. And then the overly pretentious “LOVE/HATE” revolver BS thing was a thing........blech.

I liked how the one villain was introduced only to die two seconds later. But you knew he’d die because he didn’t get much intro. So not only do you not care, you know everyone else is pretty safe since they got intros.

Overall, it was just so overhyped and overbudgeted and over-pop cultured.
